Mark, a Cameroonian based in the UK, stated that it would be unnecessary for Africans to leave for greener pastures abroad if the mindset is changed.
In an SVTV AFRICA interview, Mark indicated that the UK is not the ‘heaven’ people make it out to be, but many Africans still believe it is the sure way to success. He mentioned that most Africans have a ‘poverty mindset’ and that change will only occur if that attitude is replaced.
“If we can change our mentality and mindset in Africa, I don’t think there will be a need for us to come here. They (the UK) have built a system in a way that there is an opportunity for everybody. They gave us a concept which does not work for us.
Our way of ruling was better, but the European democracy they brought did not work for us.
We had a system that worked, and we lived in harmony for thousands of years. No one was oppressed. Our women were never oppressed. We’d need law and order to keep things in check, and our laws worked better than theirs,” he explained.
Moreover, Mark added that European democracy only brought division among Africans. He advised that a change would only occur if the education system in Africa is changed to one that suits Africans.
