Veronica Nyamar’s Story – Searching for Kwame Ben After 25 Years
Veronica Nyamar, a Sierra Leonean currently living in Virginia, USA, shared her touching story on SVTV Africa Connect. She lived in Ghana between 1996 and 1998 during the war in Sierra Leone, along with her twin sister, Venessa, and their mother, Dorothy. They stayed in an apartment in Dansoman, Accra.
During that time, a neighbor named Kwame Ben became a blessing to her family. Despite not having much himself, Ben always showed kindness. After work, he would often bring them bread, kelewele, fish, or other food items. He usually took a taxi or bus to work, but still made time and effort to share whatever little he had.
Veronica remembers Ben’s kindness with deep gratitude. “To him, it may not have been much, but to us, it meant the world. He was always willing to help. I will never forget his kindness,” she said.
Before her family returned to Sierra Leone, Veronica asked Ben for a picture, but unfortunately, she never got one. For more than 25 years, she has been searching for him. “It feels like yesterday. I truly appreciate him and just want to say thank you. I will never give up looking for him,” she added.
Today, Veronica lives with her mother in Virginia, while her twin sister Venessa is also doing well. But her biggest wish is to reconnect with Kwame Ben from Dansoman, the neighbor whose kindness left a lasting mark on her life.
