France-based Ghanaian Anita Amoah revealed that her ex-husband’s family asked for her hand in marriage because he lived abroad and they never met until their wedding.
Speaking on SVTV AFRICA with DJ Nyaami, Anita indicated that she was 17 when she got married and had no say in the discussion. She mentioned that the arranged marriage failed because they didn’t know each other.
“His parents knew my family, and I was humble and respectful. I believe that’s why they asked for my hand in marriage despite my age. Arranged marriages don’t help the couple. We didn’t know each other, so living together was difficult.
I had no option because I was young, and they told me he lived in France. We all know how big a deal it is if someone lives abroad. So the first time we met was when we picked him up at the airport,” she said.
Miss Amoah added that her husband left her in Ghana. Her father eventually paid for her trip to France to join her husband (ex) because he was not ready to sponsor it. Speaking on why they separated, Anita blamed it on their age difference and the foundation of their marriage.
“I was childish, so he became uncomfortable when I started maturing. He wanted me to stay the same. We were married for three years,” she added.
