Philomina is a Ghanaian based in the UK who recently appeared on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami.

She revealed that her husband, who lives in Ghana, encouraged her to relocate to the UK with the children. She always planned to return to Ghana eventually. Philomina also mentioned paying £1,500 in taxes to the agency that helped her migrate. After her interview, DJ Nyaami introduced her to a lawyer, and she realized that the same £1,500 could be used to build a good life in Ghana instead of struggling abroad.

According to her, one can only get Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK after 15 years, so she decided it was wiser to return home and focus on her businesses in Ghana. She told her husband she was only coming on a short visit, but when the time comes to return to the UK, she will inform him that she won’t be going back.

Philomina stressed that as long as there is life, there are opportunities, and Ghana offers more stability for her.

She described life in the UK as very difficult. She said many people have sold their properties in Ghana just to survive abroad. Her neighbour sold all her assets and even handed her salon over to her sister. Another lady gave her salon away. People take beautiful pictures for social media, but most are suffering silently.

She added that while some Ghanaians are doing well in the UK, many others are struggling but cannot return because they don’t have money.

Philomina also warned that entering the UK as a student leads to intense suffering. She shared that she became sick in the UK, but was repeatedly told she was fine. When she returned to Ghana to run tests, she finally discovered the real medical issue.

She emphasized that rent in the UK is extremely expensive. Although she initially traveled for her children’s future, she believes there is no future for them there, so she prefers training them in Ghana and later sending them abroad when they are stable.

She revealed that she knows a depressed woman in the UK who must drink alcohol before sleeping due to stress. She advised that if living abroad is not working for you, and you have the chance to return home, come back and restart your life.
