Norway-based Ghanaian Jackie Banahene revealed that she was jobless in Ghana for seven years after national service and left the country out of frustration.
In an SVTV AFRICA interview with DJ Nyaami, Jackie disclosed that he applied for several jobs after the mandatory service, but almost all the employers demanded sex first. As a newly married woman and mother, she did not want to burden her husband.
“After I joined my husband in Kumasi, I searched for jobs, but I couldn’t find any. They (employers) all demanded sex first. One even told me that I’d suffer in Ghana if I kept refusing their offer. Another asked me what he would benefit if he employed me.
I was jobless for seven years. I gave birth in between, so life got harder. Even though my husband was financially sound, it was not easy taking care of all of us. I couldn’t ask for money for every little thing. I became frustrated,” she said.
As a result, Jackie began researching opportunities to study or work abroad. Jackie applied to study for free in Norway.
