Enoch, a Ghanaian based in the UAE, has revealed his experience navigating life and work abroad amid Middle East tensions.

He explained that he left Ghana in 2016 with an IT background and the help of friends who assisted him with visa procedures. Upon arrival in Dubai, he searched for an apartment and initially faced challenges in securing employment. Eventually, he joined a phone coding company, where he excelled at decoding phones quickly. Despite his skills, he noted that salaries in the IT sector were not always competitive, and opportunities were limited for foreigners.

“In Dubai, I had to grind a lot to prove myself. My IT background helped, but even with a diploma and a first degree in hardware, getting recognized requires a master’s in some cases,” Enoch said. He also noted that Indian workers were often paid less due to currency differences, despite having comparable skills.

In an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show, Enoch shared that he also learned valuable sales and operations skills while abroad, which have helped him specialize in business operations back in Ghana.

Enoch has since acquired multiple visas, including for Canada, the UK, and the USA, and has been able to travel with his wife. Both he and his wife have worked in the same workplace abroad. He emphasized the importance of knowing your team and being careful with agents, as he has seen many people being duped.

Reflecting on his journey, Enoch said, “I started with a visitor visa in Dubai, got a job in IT, and now I can travel to the US, Canada, and UK. Experience, patience, and knowing the system are key.”

His story highlights the challenges and strategies of Ghanaians seeking opportunities abroad, as well as the importance of perseverance, skill-building, and careful planning when navigating foreign work environments.
