UK Reviews Children’s British Passports Amid Stricter Checks – Lawyer Wisdom Akaho Speaks

Lawyer Wisdom Akaho, a Ghanaian lawyer based in the United Kingdom, has addressed concerns about reports of children’s British passports being reviewed or revoked. Speaking on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide Show with DJ Nyaami, he explained the current legal position and recent developments in the UK.

According to Lawyer Akaho, under British nationality law, a child automatically becomes a British citizen at birth if one parent holds Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or is a British citizen at the time of birth. However, UK authorities have intensified verification processes in cases where there are suspicions that citizenship may have been obtained through false declarations.

He explained that in certain cases, the Home Office may request additional documents to confirm eligibility. These may include:

Proof of residence such as utility bills
Evidence showing the father was legally present in the UK at the relevant time
A voluntary DNA test where necessary
Lawyer Akaho stressed that DNA tests are not automatically required in every case but may be requested if there are inconsistencies.

He further noted that if authorities determine that citizenship was obtained through deception, the government has the legal power to revoke it. However, he emphasized that genuine families with proper documentation should not panic, as there is no blanket cancellation of passports.

He advised parents to keep proper records and seek professional legal guidance instead of relying on social media rumors.
