Teddy Emmanuel Kwatel Agyemfua, a Ghanaian poultry consultant currently based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has shared his remarkable life journey and struggles abroad in an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide Show.
According to Teddy, he moved to Brazil about two and a half months ago in search of better opportunities. His journey, however, has not been straightforward. Before settling in Brazil, he lived and worked in several countries, including Liberia, Spain, Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Singapore, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Teddy revealed that he was previously trading and working in Trinidad and Tobago, but challenges with flights and visa processes forced him to leave. His initial plan was only to obtain a Brazil transit visa, but he was instead granted a three-month multiple-entry visa, which opened the door for him to stay and work in Brazil.
With over 40 years of experience in poultry farming, Teddy has managed poultry farms across different countries. He proudly stated that he built his house through poultry farming, describing the business as capital-intensive but rewarding when done properly. His expertise earned him a job in Brazil, where he is currently working as a poultry supervisor.
Despite his experience, life in Brazil has not been easy. Teddy disclosed that he spent about $2,165 on his travel ticket, and although he earns around $100 a month, he is managing carefully while hoping for better opportunities. His long-term goal is to save money and return to Trinidad and Tobago, where he believes he can continue working and stabilize his life. Unfortunately, attempts to secure a ticket back have so far been unsuccessful.
During the interview, Teddy also expressed concern about the situation of some Ghanaians in Trinidad and Tobago, noting that several are currently in prison or detention camps, with some having entered the country through illegal routes. He highlighted the hardships faced by children there, including limited food options.
Teddy remains hopeful and determined. He believes that once he secures the necessary ticket, he will return to Trinidad and Tobago, where he has support waiting for him. His story reflects the resilience, sacrifices, and determination of many Africans hustling abroad in search of a better life.
His message to the youth is clear: hard work, patience, and skill can open doors anywhere in the world, but the journey is never easy.
