Godfred Katernor: Building a Successful Pork Business in Ghana Through Discipline, Patience, and Personal Supervision

Godfred Katernor is a Ghanaian businessman based in Tsɛdo, Accra, and the CEO of Hot Pork Restaurant, a growing pork production and sales business. Speaking about his entrepreneurial journey, Godfred shared valuable lessons on business management, sacrifice, and discipline in Ghana.

According to Godfred, one of the biggest mistakes people make when starting a business in Ghana is not being physically present. He strongly advises anyone planning to invest to supervise their business personally rather than relying entirely on family members or friends.

“If you are opening a business in Ghana, you must be there yourself to supervise. Don’t fully trust family or friends with your business,” he stressed.

Godfred explained that hands-on supervision helped him understand the daily operations of his pork business and build strong discipline among his workers. He also places high importance on kindness and respect, noting that he has intentionally trained his staff to treat customers well.

Although he has worked abroad in the past, Godfred decided to relocate and invest directly in Ghana. He shared that during Christmas, when his company abroad usually doubles his salary, he chose to double his workers’ salaries as well and paid them early so they could celebrate the festive season comfortably.

“If I’m blessed, my workers must also feel the blessing,” he said.

Through consistency and patience, Godfred has achieved major personal milestones. He is currently building his own house, which he plans to complete next year. He has also purchased land, owns a car, and says he has achieved most of the goals he set for himself in Ghana.

Godfred encouraged young people and returnees who want to invest in Ghana to choose businesses they genuinely love.

“If you love the business, you won’t give up easily. Working in Ghana requires patience,” he advised.

On a lighter note, Godfred described himself as friendly but serious-looking, which he says often discourages women from approaching him easily.

“I’m lovely, but from afar I look serious, so women don’t approach me,” he said with a smile.

Godfred revealed that he is single and ready for marriage. He disclosed that he once met a lady through an online platform, but she later described him as too serious and a workaholic after studying his lifestyle. He emphasized that he is now looking for a woman who understands his dedication to work and shares his vision.

“Any woman who wants a hardworking husband and understands me, I want my wife to live large,” he added.
