Appiawin aka Alhassan Shares Journey in Trades and Entrepreneurship on SVTV Africa

Ghanaian entrepreneur Appiawin, also known as Alhassan, recently appeared on SVTV Africa’s Business Link with DJ Nyaami, where he shared insights about his work and journey in the trades.

Alhassan is based in Kumasi, at Otech FM, and specializes in automated gates and machinery, including remote-controlled systems, barging machines, and various other industrial equipment. He revealed that he started learning welding and electronics while in primary school and has continued to build his skills over the years.

“Most people don’t take the time to learn these trades, but when apprentices come, they can be idle if I overcharge or if they don’t have funds,” he explained. “A skilled job is better. If I had gone to school, I might have learned a trade formally, but since I didn’t, I learned it myself—and it has helped me a lot.”

Alhassan noted that schooling consumes your time and resources, whereas learning a trade allowed him to focus on practical skills. He currently works with machines, handles deliveries, and can implement machinery to grow cocoa and grade land. He is also capable of repairing machines used by cocoa farmers, helping to improve efficiency on farms.

Reflecting on his personal journey, Alhasan shared,

“My father asked me if I wasn’t in school, how would I take care of my children and wife? It pains me that he passed away, because he would have been happy to see what I’ve become and what I can implement today.”
