Amanda Ofori, a Ghanaian based in the UK, appeared once again on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show with DJ Nyaami. She shared her personal experiences with marriage, relationships, and the challenges many couples face abroad.

According to Amanda, it is sometimes better to end a relationship than to stay in a broken marriage. She explained that she and her ex-husband could not stay together because they never truly got to know each other. She added that many marriages collapse for this same reason. For example, some people come to the UK without documents, quickly marry someone who has legal status, use them to obtain their papers, and then leave the marriage.

Amanda revealed that she spent 21 years in a marriage that never felt real. Her ex-husband’s father married her in Ghana and brought her to the UK to meet him. She went through deep depression and even contemplated suicide because she didn’t want to leave the marriage due to fear of public judgment. She said many people in similar situations choose suicide, but she held on because of her two children. She believes God intervened when she was close to taking her life, as she heard a voice asking who would take care of her children.

She also addressed the behavior of some men who bring women from Ghana abroad and then mistreat them. Amanda emphasized that bringing a woman from Ghana doesn’t give a man the right to control or disrespect her. Once the woman starts working and earning her own income, she will leave if she’s treated poorly. She advised that if a man wants a woman to come and support him abroad, he should be honest from the beginning and explain that they’ll build together as partners.

Amanda questioned how a man can claim to be the “head of the family” when a woman pays all the bills abroad. She stressed that behind every successful man is a supportive woman, and if husbands don’t value their wives’ opinions, decision-making becomes difficult. Many men fall into depression when things get tough, and in reality, most women end up making key decisions in marriages. According to her, the idea that a man is always the unquestioned head of the house is unrealistic—what truly matters is treating a woman well.

She added that if a woman earns her own money and wants to build a house for her mother, some husbands refuse simply because they claim to be the head of the family. Amanda challenged this mindset, encouraging mutual respect and partnership.
