From Selling Car Engines to Surviving Abroad: Ghanaian Man Bsmart Shares His Life Journey in Qatar

A Ghanaian man known as Bismark, currently based in Qatar, has shared his inspiring yet challenging life story in an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide. Once a car engine dealer at Suame Magazine in Kumasi, Bismark’s life took a drastic turn after the death of his uncle, which left him struggling to make ends meet in Ghana.

Determined to build a better life, he applied for a Qatar visa and successfully traveled there during the COVID-19 pandemic period. He explained that at the airport, immigration officers thoroughly checked travelers’ hotel bookings and financial status, leading to the deportation of many Ghanaians who did not meet the requirements.

Upon arrival in Qatar, Bismark underwent the mandatory quarantine, during which medical checks revealed that he had high blood sugar. His company warned that if the condition persisted during the final test, he would be deported. However, after changing his diet and avoiding rice, his sugar levels normalized, and he was cleared to continue working.

Initially stationed in Shania, he was later transferred to Doha. Bismark described life in Qatar as stable, emphasizing that while job opportunities exist, some Ghanaians engage in illegal activities such as selling drugs and marijuana, which tarnish the image of hardworking nationals.

Before settling in Qatar, Bismark had traveled to Kazakhstan and later attempted to enter Russia in search of better opportunities. However, upon arrival, he and others were told they would have to join the army, which frightened him. He quickly returned to Kazakhstan, then flew to Kuwait, and eventually made his way to Qatar.

He described Qatar as one of the best places he has lived, noting that there is little to no bribery, and employment opportunities are genuine. He contrasted it with places like Dubai, where he claimed some Ghanaians and Nigerians engage in scams and theft.

Despite finding relative stability in Qatar, Bismark’s personal life suffered. He revealed that after losing his job, his marriage broke down. His wife, who had completed her teacher training in Ghana and was awaiting posting, became frustrated with their situation. She eventually returned the drinks from their traditional marriage, signaling a divorce. According to Bismark, she also insulted his mother during the conflict, further straining relations between their families.

Although the drinks have been returned, he said the court wedding remains to be officially dissolved. He added that if his wife ever wants to reconcile, she must return the marriage drinks to his family.

Bismark concluded that while life abroad is full of challenges, he remains hopeful. His dream is to one day relocate to the UK or the United States, which he describes as his final destination to settle and rebuild his life.

He encouraged fellow Ghanaians to travel with the right mindset, avoid illegal activities, and uphold the nation’s image wherever they go.
