Amoroso, a Ghanaian based in Germany, appeared on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide Show with DJ Nyaami, where he opened up about his life abroad, football career, and lessons learned from 11 years in Europe.
He revealed that he began as a footballer in Ghana, playing for Vipers, a second-division team. Unfortunately, an injury ended his career prematurely. “That injury retired me in football, but it was also the connection that opened the door for me to travel abroad. My father supported my journey to Europe,” he explained.
Drawing from his own experience, Amoroso advised young footballers to add a trade or skill alongside sports. “Even if you’re a mason, learn another skill. After training, go to work so your employer can support you while you play ball,” he said.
Upon arriving in Germany, he first sought asylum and was fortunate to have a good story that worked in his favor. However, he warned that life abroad is far from easy. “Before coming abroad, make sure things are in place back home. Everyone is fighting for survival here. When you arrive, people think you’re a millionaire, but it’s not easy to even get 5 euros,” he cautioned.
He noted that people come abroad through different routes—some as students with proper documents, while others risk their lives crossing the sea. According to him, many of the challenges abroad stem from those who arrive undocumented. “Some older migrants never got their papers, so when they see you doing better, they may not help you. Some even deceive newcomers because of their own struggles with debt,” he revealed.
Despite the hardships, Amoroso has managed to marry, build a house, and make progress. He attributes this to discipline, character, and avoiding unnecessary associations. “I didn’t join the Ghanaian community here, and that has helped me focus. Abroad, character is everything,” he emphasized.
Speaking about marriage, Amoroso shared that he has lived with his wife for five years. He deliberately chose to marry his childhood friend in Ghana and later brought her abroad. “If you marry your best friend, it helps. Some men marry strangers online and later regret it,” he advised.
He also highlighted some challenges men face in Europe, especially regarding family benefits. “Sometimes when women start receiving child benefits, they want to divorce their husbands so they can enjoy it alone. Some even push men out of the house. The lack of truth and transparency is why many marriages here break down,” he added.
Amoroso concluded with a story of a friend whose wife almost got snatched by another man. “A friend brought his wife, and when she needed help with appointments, another man stepped in. That man tried to turn her against my friend. If the woman wasn’t strong, he would have lost her. That’s one of the reasons women divorce men here—they realize things were not explained to them properly,” he said.
