Charles Shares His Ordeal After Being Stranded in the Philippines

Charles, a Ghanaian who found himself stranded in the Philippines, has finally returned home. Speaking in an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show, he revealed that he arrived back in Accra just two weeks ago.

“I’m currently in Accra,” he confirmed. “My advice to anyone planning to travel is to get the right documentation before leaving. Without proper papers, you may end up stranded in a foreign country with no way forward. Don’t entrust your journey to people too much, because that’s what landed me in the problem I faced. You should take risks wisely, but make sure they are calculated risks.”

Charles narrated that life in the Philippines was extremely difficult. “At night, fear would set in, especially when earthquakes happened. The magnitudes were sometimes small, but it was still terrifying,” he recalled.

He also mentioned that he wasn’t the only Ghanaian struggling there. “There’s another guy who still wants to return to Ghana but doesn’t have a ticket. He was a tipper truck driver back home. He’s been in the Philippines for over a year now, while others overstayed their visas for just a few months. Many can’t return because of penalties on their tickets.”

Charles further recounted the story of a fellow Ghanaian who got into serious legal trouble. “He was in a relationship with a Filipino bank teller who later exposed him. She claimed he learned how to withdraw money illegally from her, and when the case went to court, he ended up facing jail time. He thought he was in love, but it backfired badly.”

Reflecting on his own journey, Charles admitted: “I have learned a lot from this trip. If I had the chance again, I would do things differently. Being stranded on an island teaches you lessons the hard way.”
