Francis, popularly known as Farmers Hope Africa, is a Ghanaian based in Israel and a returning guest on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami. Speaking about his experience living in a conflict zone, Francis shared that while the situation in Israel can be intense, it is not as frightening as people might think—as long as you follow the safety protocols.
According to him, whenever there’s a bomb threat, an alert is issued about 20 minutes beforehand through a loud siren. Residents are expected to quickly move to nearby bomb shelters, which are strategically located and easily accessible. “It takes us about 25 seconds to walk to the bomb shelter,” he explained. “These shelters are safe, and once you’re inside, you’re protected. If you ignore the alert and remain outside, that’s when you’re at risk.”
Francis added that Israel has systems in place to intercept and destroy 90% of incoming bombs, with only 10% slipping through. Most buildings—even hospitals—have designated bomb shelters equipped with basic supplies like water and snacks.
“I’ve been living here for more than two years and I’m not planning to return to Ghana,” he stated confidently. “I feel safe here. I’m even on my way to work right now. If I hear the siren, I’ll just step into the shelter and continue with my day.”
Outside of his day job, Francis has also begun farming in Israel. He owns and manages a farm where he grows maize, cassava, and plantain. He’s even employed some of his former classmates to support the venture and has expanded into cassava processing. He expects to begin harvesting at the end of next month.
