Yusif, a resident of Kwabenya, shared his distressing story on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle GH and SVTV Africa connect, revealing that his brother, Mumuni Yahaya, has gone missing after joining the Russian army. According to Yusif, Mumuni left Ghana with the hope of finding greener pastures in Russia. Before migrating, he worked as a company trailer driver.
He was introduced to the opportunity by an agent who claimed there were job openings in Russia. However, upon arrival, most of Mumuni’s friends opted to join the military, and under pressure, he followed suit. He officially joined the Russian army in March 2025.
Yusif says the last time the family heard from Mumuni was on March 23, 2025, during his training period. Since then, there has been complete silence. The family has no official documents, contact person, or communication channel — only his name and a photo.
“We are nine siblings,” Yusif said. “Our parents believed he was going to work, make money, and return home. He wasn’t married but had one child. None of us expected him to be caught up in a war situation. Honestly, I didn’t pay attention to the Russia-Ukraine conflict until recently, when I started following the news and realized how serious it was.”
The family is now appealing to the public, especially Ghanaians living in Russia, for any help in locating Mumuni.
“We’re not sleeping well. We’re worried sick. If anyone has seen him or has any information, please help us. We just want to know that he’s safe,” Yusif pleaded.
