Gandy Kofi, a Ghanaian living in Barcelona, Spain, shared his emotional journey with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide Show.

Gandy opened up about the challenges of living abroad. He mentioned that although food in Spain can be expensive, people often misunderstand life there. Some even think Spain is like a village compared to other European countries. He said,

“I walk to work and wash dishes — some Ghanaians believe dishwashing abroad brings infections, but this is the work that feeds me.”

He observed that many Ghanaians move to countries like Germany and the Netherlands because of the government benefits, but for him, it was always about building a future. He has traveled to Ghana many times and even started building a house, though it is still not complete. According to him, the people he trusted to build for him misused his money several times.

Gandy married his wife in 2002, believing she was pregnant with his child. However, after a DNA test, it was confirmed the child wasn’t his. He had already sent money to her to build a house on his behalf, but she had used the funds for her own purposes. Despite this, he remained patient.

In 2007, he returned to Ghana unexpectedly. His wife and her family came to meet him at the airport. During that visit, he discovered through her friend’s phone call that she had multiple relationships with other men. He chose not to react immediately but took note of everything.

Gandy had a strange dream where a man told him that the woman was his (the man’s) wife — and later, he learned that this man was the real father of the child he once believed was his. He stayed with his wife at their house in Nkoranza, but things continued to worsen. She controlled the money he brought home, and their relationship became increasingly strained.

Their marital issues were never resolved legally in court. Her father had encouraged her to learn a trade, but Gandy preferred she start a business. She later had an affair with another woman’s husband, leading to a curse placed on her. When he was in Ghana, he once picked a call on her phone and was insulted by another man, who later came to his house and confronted him.

From 2010 to 2015, Gandy described facing serious intimacy issues whenever he was with her. However, those problems did not occur with his ex-girlfriend or a Nigerian woman he met in Spain. He had children with both women — one in Nigeria and another with his ex in Ghana. His ex-wife, however, became furious when she found out and began to cause more trouble, including seizing his travel documents and insulting him constantly.

At one point, she filed a court case demanding GHS 10,000 and ownership of the house. She claimed he wasn’t supporting the children, even though he had opened a shop for her and asked her to rent out parts of the house for income. She also tried to curse him and falsely accused him in front of elders and even dragged his father to court.

Gandy clarified that he takes care of his children. He celebrated his daughter’s birthday at school and bought her a tablet, but the relationship with his ex-wife became too toxic. Her repeated insults and curses pushed him to distance himself from her completely.

Now, Gandy is remarried in Spain to a Senegalese woman, though she hasn’t had a child yet. He has four daughters — one with the Nigerian woman, and three in Ghana. He concluded by saying that after all the betrayal and pain, he has moved on and is focused on taking care of his children and building a better future for himself.
