Stranded Ghanaian Migrants in Bangladesh Receive Support from Ghanaian Footballers

Raphael Annan, a Ghanaian immigrant stranded in Bangladesh, was deceived by an agent who took GHC 200,000 each from him and his friend Mike, promising them a better future abroad.

Following their last interview on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami, several Ghanaians in Bangladesh reached out to offer support, bringing some relief to the stranded duo. Raphael’s wife has purchased his ticket to return to Ghana, but Mike still needs assistance. They remain in a hotel, struggling to pay for accommodation and the overstay fees in Bangladesh.

Raphael warns others against relying on “connection men,” stating,

“They will take all your money and leave you stranded.”

Junior Kofi Dasbanka aka Pablo, a Ghanaian footballer in Bangladesh, another Ghanaian footballer Mohammed Moro, who expressed gratitude for discovering that fellow countrymen were stranded.

Pablo explained that many people arrive in Bangladesh through illegal routes, making survival difficult.

“If you don’t come through the right channels, it’s tough,” he said.

Pablo, who came to Bangladesh as a footballer, advises aspiring players to be cautious.

“If you’re a footballer, it’s advisable to come with a legitimate contract. But if you’re just hustling, it’s not possible here. I can’t guarantee anyone’s safety.”

He emphasized that, no matter how desperate one is, Bangladesh should not be an option unless through legal means. He personally had opportunities in China but couldn’t stay long, reinforcing the need for proper background checks on agents.

Raphael shared that, after their interview, some people criticized them for not speaking out earlier. However, Ghanaian footballers in Bangladesh, including Moro Mohammed (formerly of Eleven Wise), have stepped in to provide food and shelter for Mike and Raphael while they awaits his return.

Additionally, Dr. Emmanuel, another Ghanaian in India, has processed Mike’s visa, allowing him to move to India soon.

Raphael, reflecting on his ordeal, vowed never to fall for such scams again.

“The connection man deceived us and abandoned us. Next time, no one will be able to dupe me.”

Ghanaian footballers in Bangladesh continue to offer help to stranded migrants, showing the power of unity even in difficult times.
