Ghanaian Man Shares Ordeal After Being Duped and Deported from Qatar

Vincent, a Ghanaian who set out to work in Qatar, has shared his heartbreaking experience of being scammed by an agent and later deported. According to him, he was among 40 young men from Ghana who traveled to Qatar in November 2024, hoping for job opportunities.

In an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show, Vincent revealed that some of the recruits were sent to Qatar by an agent known as Mr. CS Plannos, who operated near Agya Filling Station in Ashaiman.

However, the main connection to Qatar was provided by another individual named Joel. While some people had traveled ahead, Vincent and others later followed in hopes of securing jobs.

They were promised jobs, but upon arrival, they realized there were none. The company that was supposed to employ them denied any knowledge of their arrival.

It turned out that their work permits were printed for the Asia Cup, and the agents who facilitated their travel had vanished. When they confronted the office responsible, they were told that their papers were fake.

With no jobs and no income, the stranded men suffered immensely. They barely had food and had to rely on the kindness of strangers. When they called the agent for help, he kept lying to them. One of their group members fell sick, but they had little to no support.

Vincent, originally a vulcanizer in Kumasi, had spent GHC40,000 on the trip. He was promised a cleaner job in Qatar, earning GHC5,000 per month—an amount impossible to make in Ghana. His motivation for traveling was to support his pregnant girlfriend, who had stopped working, making him the sole provider.

Realizing they had been scammed, the company refused to employ them and instead arranged for their deportation.

Vincent was among 20 people who demanded to be sent back to Ghana, but the agents had already taken money from others and refused. Eventually, they were deported.

To make matters worse, when Vincent returned to Ghana, he faced more struggles. His father was upset with him for making such a costly mistake. However, determined to turn things around, he attempted to travel again—this time to Dubai.

Reports indicate that the agent who scammed them was also deported and is currently in Uganda. Some of the victims attempted to confront his wife and children, only to discover that his wife was unaware of his fraudulent activities.

Many others who were deceived into traveling to Qatar also suffered similar fates. Some girls, out of desperation, turned to prostitution. The Qatar government has since cracked down on illegal workers, leading to mass deportations.

Isaac, also known as “Respect Woman,” recounted how he helped some of the stranded Ghanaians in Qatar. He met some of them through a TikTok live session where they expressed their hunger. He arranged a meeting and provided food and groceries for them.

Isaac further revealed that many agents operating in Qatar lie to young men and women, promising them jobs that do not exist.

Some of these victims even take loans to fund their trips, only to end up stranded. Qatar authorities have increased efforts to arrest and deport undocumented workers, making the situation even more difficult for those who fall victim to scams.

Vincent’s story is one of many, highlighting the risks of trusting unverified agents for overseas job opportunities. His journey from Ghana to Qatar, deportation, and current struggles in Dubai serve as a cautionary tale for others considering similar routes
