Kwabena Anyimadu, a Ghanaian living in America, recently shared his experiences on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show with DJ Nyaami. As a returning guest, he offered advice and reflected on his journey.

“Moving abroad at an older age, like 50 and above, isn’t a good idea. Selling your property to relocate doesn’t make sense. It’s a 50/50 gamble—it could either make you or break you,” he said.

Kwabena recounted his challenges in Ghana before traveling.

“I worked as a vulcanizer in Ghana, but people bought on credit, and I wasn’t making ends meet. Life in Ghana is tough, and many people leave out of frustration. But if you sell your property to come abroad and end up doing cleaning jobs, you’ll suffer.”

He emphasized the need to shift the mindset about success.

“We should encourage our children to explore farming instead of thinking they can only succeed as lawyers, doctors, or nurses. In my hometown, some people built big houses from farming.”

Now in his 60s, Kwabena plans to return to Ghana.After years in the U.S., Kwabena has decided to return to Ghana.

He added that while he initially traveled for his children’s future, that mission is complete as all his children have graduated from university in the U.S.

“I’ve decided not to live here anymore. I’ll return this year and start a vulcanizing business with my skills. I came here for a better future for my kids, and I’ve succeeded—all my kids have graduated from universities in the U.S. But now it’s time for me to go back.”

Kwabena also shared his views on health and religion.

“When I’m sick, I go to the hospital. I don’t go to church for a pastor to lie to me. Some people spend six days in church and then ask others for money, while I work six days a week to provide for myself.”

Reflecting on his time abroad, Kwabena admitted he had faced many struggles but maintained that helping others along the way was important. Despite his challenges, he’s ready to embrace life back home and continue his journey in Ghana.
