Adam’s Story: A Journey of Struggles, Survival, and Starting Anew in Malta

Adam, a returning guest on Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami, shared his harrowing journey from Ghana to Malta. His story is one of resilience, survival, and a quest for a better life.

In 2011, Adam left Ghana and embarked on a perilous journey through several countries, including Niger and Libya, where he worked odd jobs to fund his travels.

Along the way, he faced unimaginable hardships, including being kidnapped and paying ransom to secure his freedom.

While in Libya, Adam worked tirelessly and endured harsh conditions before making a dangerous attempt to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Italy.

During the journey, Adam’s boat, carrying over 100 passengers, capsized.

Many passengers fell into the sea and drowned, but Adam, who couldn’t swim, managed to cling to a rope before losing consciousness.

He woke up four days later in a hospital in Malta, having been rescued by the American military.

Tragically, Adam has not heard from his brother, who was also on the boat, since the incident.

Adam faced further challenges upon arriving in Malta.

He lost his memory temporarily and had to convince officials he was from Togo to avoid deportation.

Despite initial struggles, including limited mobility due to injuries sustained during the ordeal, Adam eventually received documents that allowed him to stay.

He lived in a freedom camp and relied on government support before finding work. Over time, he managed to secure his residency papers and rebuild his life.

Adam shared insights into life in Malta, noting the opportunities available for work in construction and other industries.

He also touched on cultural differences, including challenges black immigrants face when marrying locals for citizenship.

According to him, many black immigrants leave Malta after gaining citizenship, which has led to stricter policies.

Today, Adam considers Malta his home and appreciates the stability it offers.

Though he briefly returned to Ghana, he has settled in Malta and continues to encourage others to persevere despite life’s obstacles. However, the loss of his brother remains a painful chapter in his journey.
