In a recent appearance on SVTV Africa’s “Daily Hustle Worldwide,” hosted by DJ Nyaami, founder and CEO of SVTV Africa, Lawyer Solomon Akwasi Sarfo shared his life journey from Ghana to Canada and the challenges he faced along the way.

Sarfo, currently based in Brampton, Ontario, near Toronto, noted the significant Ghanaian community in the area.

He recounted his arrival in Canada in 1995 and his upbringing in government housing.

His late father hailed from Acheavi in the Volta Region, and his mother from Nsukwa in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

After his mother remarried, the family relocated to Canada.

Upon settling in Canada, Sarfo attended elementary school and, through diligence, obtained citizenship early.

Despite his stepfather’s efforts to support the family, Sarfo faced personal challenges, including being sacked from home.

He moved between Toronto and Morden, Ontario, eventually returning to Toronto to pursue higher education.

He completed studies in Police Foundations, earned a master’s degree from York University, and attended law school, becoming a licensed immigration lawyer in June 2024.

Sarfo’s personal life was fraught with difficulties.

He married a Ghanaian woman under familial pressure, despite warnings from friends about potential incompatibility.

The marriage faced numerous obstacles, including familial interference and financial strains.

His in-laws frequently stayed with the couple, causing tension.

During his law studies at the University of Ottawa, his wife insisted on accompanying him, fearing infidelity, which added stress to their relationship.

The situation deteriorated as Sarfo’s wife made unfounded allegations against him, leading to his arrest and temporary loss of access to their home and children.

He spent significant sums on legal battles, including approximately $120,000 in family court and lawyer fees.

Despite these challenges, Sarfo was acquitted of all charges, regained his law license, and established his own practice.

The couple eventually divorced, and custody arrangements were made for their children.

Reflecting on his experiences, Sarfo highlighted how some individuals exploit the legal system to penalize ex-spouses and seize property.

He emphasized the importance of careful consideration in marital decisions and the impact of external advice on relationships. Despite the hardships, Sarfo’s resilience led him to a successful legal career and a renewed sense of purpose.
