US-based Ghanaian Reverend Dr. Thomas Ofori shared his experience of leaving his secure job at a local bank in Ghana with the hope of pursuing new opportunities in the United States.

Speaking with SVTV Africa’s DJ Nyaami, Rev. Ofori had dreamed of starting a new life there and changed his visa to R1 with the hope of getting a green card after three years but his application was denied.

As a result, Rev. Ofori and his family faced limited options and found themselves navigating the complexities of living in the U.S. as undocumented immigrants.

For the next 15 years, he grappled with the challenges and uncertainties that came with this status, trying to make a life for himself while living in constant fear of being discovered.

“My kids could not continue their university education until Obama became president and gave the kids green cards. It was through my eldest daughter that my wife and I got it.”
