A Ghanaian traveller shared his experience at a Japanese airport, detailing the unfair treatment he encountered during the immigration process.

In an interview with SVTV Africa’s DJ Nyaami, he described how he was met with scepticism from the immigration officers, who seemed to question his intentions for visiting Japan more intently than other travellers.

According to the gentleman, he was refused entry into Japan and detained in an underground cell for a few days without access to his belongings despite having all the necessary documentation and eventually deported.

“I was there like a prisoner. They only gave me water and took money from me to buy food. I had three guards around me even to the washroom. They told me I had to return to Ghana for a work visa instead because I came with a tourist visa.

The immigration took my passport and made me sign a document stating that I was returning to Ghana willingly but I was treated like a criminal at the airport and on the flight back to South Korea,” he recounted.
