US-based Ghanaian Darlynbuoy disclosed that he expected to be rich and successful within six months of working in the US based on all the stories he had heard about life abroad.

In a chat on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Darlynbuoy mentioned that his expectations about working in the US were unmet. Despite having family abroad, he did not know about the difficulties of working or integrating into the system abroad.

In response to his perception of America before his time there, Darlynbuoy said, “I thought it was a country of wealth and I could make it within six months. I dreamt of buying houses and owning businesses in Ghana within that period. But it is not how it works.”

“That perception was wrong. My sisters lived abroad and I was in charge of their projects in Ghana. They gave me money often, so I thought it was easy to get until I got here,” he told DJ Nyaami.

According to Darlynbuoy, he was eager to travel abroad and eventually joined his mother in the US. He shared his 8-year experience working in the US; integrating, culture shocks and more.
