Mr Konadu, a Ghanaian based in the UK disclosed that he worked as a nurse in Ghana for almost a decade, but did not have GHS10,000 saved.
In a chat on SVTV Africa with DJ Nyaami, he mentioned working in the health sector was much easier than abroad. However, the salary was poor. He had to establish a side business to survive.
“I worked at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for eight years, but I couldn’t save even ₵10,000. I bought and fixed used cars, and that supported me financially.”
Speaking on his work as a nurse in Ghana, Mr Konadu said, “It is not as scary as being a nurse in the UK. Your PIN can be taken with the little mistake you make.
We could sleep during the night shifts in Ghana, but you’ll be sacked if you’re caught here. The seriousness is low in Ghana, but it was good.”
According to Mr Konadu, his wife convinced him to try the COS (Certificate of Sponsorship) route to the UK. He revealed that many Ghanaians who came with COS have been left stranded and jobless.
The UK-based Ghanaian advised Africans coming with COS to be vigilant and research the company as some lie about the availability of jobs for health workers.
