Vivian, a Ghanaian high school teacher based in the UK, shared some of the challenges and her reasons for relocating to the UK to work.

In an interview with Daily Hustle Worldwide, the math teacher revealed that Ghanaian teachers face poor salaries, working conditions, and a lack of attention to their concerns. As a result, she researched teaching opportunities abroad and found a perfect fit in the UK.

“I always looked for better opportunities and got two options in the US and the UK. Teaching in Ghana is good, especially for women. Having a passion makes it easier, but poor salaries and working conditions forced me out. I have siblings in the Police service and the Ghana Army.

After comparing our salaries, it is clear that our pay is not sufficient. The Policemen and Soldiers get free accommodation, but we don’t get the same benefits. Teachers are paid less, and we don’t get these benefits either. So we had to find other opportunities,” she noted.

Vivian mentioned that she won a free Teacher’s license (International Qualified Teacher Status), available for teachers from specific countries, including Ghana. According to Vivian, she applied with her GES Teacher’s license and other requirements and got a response a month later.

Vivian moved to the UK in January 2024 and currently teaches Mathematics in a high school.
