US-based Ghanaian Kwame Essien has stated that America saved him from religion because it made him the most useless person.

In an interview on SVTV AFRICA with DJ Nyaami, Kwame revealed that he gave all his money to pastors even when his mom was living in poverty. According to Kwame, he wanted to go to heaven and believed giving his money to the church was the way to go.

“I was very religious while in Ghana. I worked as a security guard at the Bank of Ghana. I spent all my money on church offerings. Meanwhile, my mom was suffering. I should have given her some, but I didn’t.

I was the most useless person. I realised that after I came to the US. I had no thought of saving to get land or anything. It was all about the church because my only focus was heaven,” he recounted.

Kwame Essien travelled to Europe in 2003 through Libya and eventually moved to the US. He added that America changed his mindset on many things, including religion.

“I used to preach on the streets while in Ghana, and a man rebuked me for making noise, and I thought he was the devil. I only understood him after I got here. God will bless you whether you pay your tithe or not,” he added.
