UK-based Ghanaian Evelyn Amoako revealed that she posted her boyfriend’s promise ring back to him after she left the country.
Speaking with DJ Nyaami on SVTV AFRICA, Evelyn indicated that her ex-boyfriend only promised marriage when he heard she was preparing to travel abroad.
“Just when I was about to leave, he gave me the ring. I accepted it but posted it back to him when I arrived. I didn’t have documents when I came, and I had to move forward when I got it. I was not ready to file for him to come. It would take too long,” she said.
Evelyn travelled to Italy and eventually migrated to the UK. She spoke about the differences between marriages among Africans in Italy and the UK and why the divorce rate is much higher in Italy.
“There are fewer jobs for women in Italy, so it makes them submissive to their husbands, unlike in the UK. Most of the women change as soon as they migrate to the UK. It’s all about understanding,” Evelyn added.
