UK-based Ghanaian Wendy Serwaa revealed that her mother advised her against marrying her ex-husband mainly because he had no documents, but she was so much in love to notice any red flags.

In a chat on SVTV AFRICA, Wendy stated that she believes her husband only married her to get documented because his attitude changed after he got the permit. Before their marriage, Wendy got a hint from her mother in the form of disapproval, but she ignored it.

“My mom didn’t approve of our marriage. She wanted me to complete my education first, and he did not have a permit to stay here. I wasn’t looking at whether he had it or not. Things changed after he got the permit,” she told host DJ Nyaami.

Years into their marriage, Wendy’s ex-husband began cheating with multiple women while she was pregnant and even abused her, but she did not report it.

“He beat me up, but I was not pressing charges because he is my children’s father. I can’t do that to him. In all of it, I was protecting him,” Wendy added.
