Germany-based Ghanaian Edith Afua Donkor revealed that pressure from family after her parents disapproved of her German boyfriend (now husband) led her into depression.
In an interview on Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami, Edith revealed that she attempted suicide five times because of the intense pressure from her family after they refused his proposal. According to Edith, her family thought the German was too old for their daughter, but he was all she wanted.
“I was okay with my husband, but my family gave us a tough time. Initially, my father approved of him, but he later changed his mind because people said I was too young for him.
So for about nine months, my husband and I were not talking. The pressure from family was too much. My father didn’t speak to me for a while. I attempted suicide five times because I just wanted to end it all,” she disclosed.
Edith indicated that she had to push harder for the love of her life. Her father still didn’t approve of it, but she went ahead with the ceremony.
