Netherlands-based Ghanaian Kofi Nyarko AKA DJ Kofi has stated that Ghanaian men living often cause their divorces and gave several reasons to buttress his point.
Speaking on SVTV AFRICA with DJ Nyaami, DJ Kofi indicated that Ghanaian men, especially those who often bring their wives from Ghana, cause their marriages to collapse because some suppress their wives and forget that they would adapt to the new culture.
“Sometimes, men are the cause of these divorces. The men have to adjust to the mentality that the woman has been introduced to because marriage in Ghana is not the same as abroad. That is what many do not acknowledge.
Some men even seize their wives’ bank passbooks and withdraw their monies. So when the women adapt to the system, they divorce them. The cause of divorce abroad is financial,” DJ Kofi noted.
Having lived in the Netherlands for over 20 years, Mr Nyarko has seen many marriages collapse over similar issues among the Ghanaian community. According to him, many of these divorces result from financial issues.
“Two captains can’t be on a ship. The men must like a fool to keep their marriage. Women have more advantages abroad. They can have you thrown out in a minute. Any good woman will realise your struggle and help you,” DJ Kofi noted.
