France-based Ghanaian Olivia Serwaa has shared her marriage experience on how her divorce messed her up mentally, forcing her out of her marital home.
In an interview on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Olivia indicated that she was married while in Ghana, but it ended painfully due to how she was treated in the marriage. Olivia revealed that he maltreated her despite his ‘Christian’ outlook and had to run from her home.
Olivia stated that her ex-husband never physically abused her but emotionally. She said, “you know when you’re dating someone, it’s all fun, but after we got married, everything changed. So I was shocked when I realised how he was. For a man who claimed to love me, the maltreatment was too much; emotional abuse.”
According to Olivia, she was not convinced about her ex-husband’s ‘good boy’ outlook. However, her mother persuaded her and presumed he’d be God because of his Christian background.
“My mom convinced me to marry him. I asked him what his intentions were, and he promised me that he wanted to be with me. We even promised to stay chaste until marriage. So I believed him. I had to flee from our home before eventually getting a divorce. It affected me mentally because I had not experienced that before,” Olivia added.
