Musician Gasmilla believes despite Azonto has been out of the trends in Ghana’s music scene for some time, it has never been dead.

According to him, Azonto has been re-eventing itself through what he described as “growing roots.”

The ‘Telemo’ crooner made the observation on Wednesday when he joined a Twitter campaign by a number of top music personalities, including Sarkodie, to bring back the Azonto dance into the music scene.

Azonto remains one of the biggest dance exports from Ghana to the world, which later became a music genre.

The dance which is associated with the coastal towns such as Chorkor, James Town, La, Teshie, Nungua and Tema in the Greater Accra Region involves different movements that either mimic everyday activities or are meant to amuse.

On Wednesday, Sarkodie released a new song titled‘Fa Hooki Mi’ featuring Tulenkey, and he decided to use the song to bring back the Azonto dance.

He, therefore, asked his followers to send videos of themselves dancing Azonto moves to the new song.

This got #BringBackAzontodance to trend on Twitter, which got a number of other artistes to join the campaign.

“Azonto has never been dead. The torch has been silently blazing and growing roots. Glad my brothers and sisters finally woke up to the fact that our way to the international world is Azonto coz that’s our own. Let’s go,” Gasmilla indicated when he joined the trend.
