Canada-based Ghanaian, Andrews Mensah has encouraged Ghanaians living abroad to focus on establishing themselves abroad and not in Ghana because the homes they build becomes a burden.

Speaking on SVTV Africa, Mr. Mensah indicated that with their families abroad, there is no reason to build a home in Ghana when they only stay in those houses for a few weeks. However, they need to spend money on maintaining the home even while abroad.

“I’ve been in Canada for 28 years. My wife and children live here, so all I need to do is find a place for my mom in Ghana. If I work extra to build a house in Ghana, they will call for the utility bill, etc. My children will not go back to stay in Ghana.

If I need $10k now, I won’t get it from that house in Ghana. Canada is where I live and work, so I must live well here before anywhere else,” he advised.

Mr. Andrews also revealed that it is easier to buy a home in Canada than rent.

“Once you have papers and work, you can apply for a loan. That is much easier and cheaper than renting. About 80% of immigrants here own their homes,” he added.

Moreover, Andrews shared some stories about his journey from Nigeria to Europe. According to Andrews, he was deported from Europe twice before settling in Canada finally.
