General captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan has revealed that he wants a rousing farewell when he finally decides to hang his boots as a professional footballer.

The striker explained in an interview monitored by Ghanaweb that, he does not want to become one of the Ghanaian players who leave the national team with pain.

Despite earning national and worldwide recognition, Gyan believes that when the time is up, stakeholders in the football industry must give him a befitting farewell.

“People leave the national team with pain, I don’t want to mention names but there are a lot of players I can testify,” Gyan told Adom TV.

He added, “for me, I believe people have observed what I have done, so if they decide to give me a farewell my soul will be happy. Although people appreciate me on the street it all depends on how they want to do it.”

Stephen Appiah who led Ghana to its first-ever World Cup in 2006 is the only player to have played a testimonial game in recent times. The former Juventus midfielder’s farewell match was played at the Accra Sports Stadium with by both international and national teammates in action.

For Gyan, the decision to play a testimonial game rests on the Ghana FA and his personal decision on how he wants it to be done.

“I can decide with my team that I want to play a testimonial game, GFA can also decide that they will do something for me, maybe I will play a game or something, it will depend on them. Secondly, it will depend on how I want it to be done, for now, I’m still in the game, as time goes on ideas will come.”

The former Sunderland player who is yet to call it quits after 17-years of active football emphasized that when the time is right to retire he wouldn’t hesitate to do so.

“I’m still active as a player so I haven’t planned anything. One-day I can wake up in the morning and say that I will continue to play till the next four years, the next morning I can wake up in the morning and inform my brother that I’m done. So it depends on how the day goes because the human body changes each day but for now I’m okay playing football,” Gyan said in the interview monitored by Ghanaweb.

Asamoah Gyan joined the national team in 2003 and has so far scored 51 one goals in the process. He’s played at three world cups and eight African Cup of Nations.
