Kingsley, a Ghanaian based in Derby, UK, appeared on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show with DJ Nyaami to share his journey over the past four years in the UK.

Before moving, Kingsley worked in Ghana in labor relations and safety, inspecting factories and workplaces. He graduated from university in 2011, completed national service in 2012, and later served as a District Assembly Officer for GA Central. He had purchased land, a car, and was planning to start a family, but the uncertain future for his children in Ghana motivated him to seek opportunities abroad.

In September 2022, Kingsley moved to the UK. He initially worked in Coventry and navigated the complex sponsorship and visa processes, including obtaining an international driving license to work effectively. Through platforms like Indeed, he secured positions as a Senior Care Assistant and in other companies, eventually earning a five-year visa. His current role has even promoted him and relocated him to Derby.

However, the journey has been difficult and marked by tragedy. Kingsley recounted how two fellow migrants died: one Ghanaian man, whose wife was pregnant, passed away before seeing his second child, and a Nigerian woman succumbed to breast cancer shortly after arriving in the UK. He notes that many others struggle with homelessness, mental health, and extreme stress.

Kingsley has not married yet, as his focus has been on building stability abroad. He prefers to find a partner locally in the UK rather than maintain a long-distance relationship. Reflecting on his experience, he notes that only a few escape the hardships of migration, but perseverance and preparation can make a difference.
