Richard is a Ghanaian based in Germany and a returning guest on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide Show with DJ Nyaami. In his interview, he spoke honestly about the realities of living abroad and why many people ignore the difficult side of migration.
According to Richard, life abroad is tough, but many people who have already made up their minds to relocate refuse to listen to the negative truths. He explained that he lived in Ghana before moving to Germany, so when he speaks about the challenges abroad, his words come from personal experience.
“When I was in Ghana, my only focus was traveling abroad,” he said. “I never thought about the other side.” He recalled a comment from someone who said that if he returned to Ghana, he would die—despite having lived in Ghana his entire life before relocating for a short period. Richard described such thinking as misleading and dangerous.
Richard noted that working in a job you do not love is exhausting. He explained that many people abroad are stuck in jobs their hearts are not in, simply because they need to survive. “When your heart is not part of your work, you get tired quickly,” he said.
He added that once you truly understand Ghana, your perspective on living abroad changes. Richard believes that if the same energy, strength, and money used to survive abroad were invested into businesses in Ghana, many people would succeed faster.
According to him, even if you manage to raise a large amount of money to travel abroad, it can take many years to recover financially. He stressed that money is not easier to make abroad—it is only structured differently.
Richard pointed out that people die everywhere—both abroad and in Ghana—and everyone must find their own path to success. He shared that he has seen older migrants return to Ghana and become discouraged after realizing how young people back home are making money and building successful lives.
In conclusion, Richard encouraged people to think deeply before relocating and to understand that success does not depend on location but on mindset, planning, and hard work.
