Sir Adams is a Ghanaian based in Germany who recently appeared on SVTV Africa’s Matter Dey show with DJ Nyaami, where he shared his life journey and difficult experiences abroad as a warning to young people planning to travel to Europe.
Adams, who currently lives in Bremen, said he left Ghana about ten years ago but still visits home three to four times every year. According to him, his main reason for speaking out is to educate and advise the youth who see Germany as a place where life is automatically easy.
He explained that he was born into hardship, as his father was already old when he came into the world and times were very difficult. In search of a better life, he first travelled to Belgium, where a friend hosted him. However, the stay was uncomfortable, and he often slept at a train station because his host wanted privacy. Eventually, he met another Ghanaian woman who took him in and later connected him to a man he worked for, loading containers for just 20 euros a day.
Despite the hardship, Adams said he remained hopeful and prayerful. Although he had no proper documents, he managed to send goods to Ghana, which his siblings sold for him. He also helped family members, including buying an Opel Astra car for his uncle. During this time, a close friend from school decided to join him abroad. Adams said he was honest with the friend about the realities, but the friend still came and ended up being duped of a large amount of money after being promised documents through false adoption arrangements.
Through similar promises, Adams moved from Belgium to Germany, only to realize that there were no documents waiting for him. He then focused on business, shipping goods from Hannover to Ghana, including Bantama and Tafo, even though he still did not have papers and sometimes had to work using other people’s documents.
His life later took a complicated turn through relationships. While trying to do business, he met a woman who claimed she wanted to buy a sofa and took his contact. Instead of business, she began advising and praying with him, telling him she had spent many years abroad. Around the same time, Adams met another Ghanaian lady he loved and made his girlfriend.
Later, the sofa woman invited him to her house, and they became intimate. Shortly after, she told him she was pregnant. Adams later discovered troubling information about her background, including allegations of prostitution. He said the woman later admitted she knew he had no documents and pressured him into taking responsibility for the pregnancy, which led him to apply for asylum.
As his situation worsened, Adams found himself in a deportation camp. He said the woman caused conflict between him and his brothers and allegedly set people up around him. Eventually, both the woman and his girlfriend became pregnant, but Adams said his heart remained with the girlfriend. However, the situation destroyed that relationship as well.
He further alleged that the woman used manipulation, blackmail, and false accusations, including drug allegations, to control him. He claimed she demanded marriage, collected benefits, ruined his business relationships, and contributed to the loss of goods in his container. He also said he paid maintenance for over 18 months and later discovered that only one of the two children he was paying for was biologically his.
According to Adams, the ordeal nearly sent him to prison and completely stalled his progress in Germany. Eventually, the truth came out, and they were able to divorce, but by then his relationship with the woman he truly loved had ended.
Sir Adams ended his story by strongly cautioning young men abroad to be extremely careful, especially with relationships and promises of help. He warned against blindly trusting people who introduce women under the guise of help or marriage, saying such situations can destroy lives.
He stressed that life abroad is not easy, documents are not guaranteed, and wrong decisions can cost years of suffering. His message, he said, is not to discourage ambition, but to encourage wisdom, patience, and truth for anyone planning to travel to Germany or elsewhere in Europe.
