Maame Yaa Returns from Italy to Build a New Life and Business in Ghana

Maame Yaa, a Ghanaian based in Ghana, has shared her inspiring return story after relocating from Italy to start a new life and business back home.

Speaking on SVTV Africa’s Business Link with host DJ Nyaami, Maame Yaa said her decision to return to Ghana remains the best decision she has ever made. She expressed joy at spending her first Christmas in Ghana with her family after many years abroad.

According to her, life in Ghana has given her something she did not fully enjoy abroad—freedom, peace of mind, and time for her children.

“I have relocated with no stress. You can walk out, sell, and earn money. The future in Ghana is cool for me,” she said.

After returning, Maame Yaa started a small business, selling Tom Brown, vinegar, fresh fruit juices, and other local products. She emphasized that starting small helped her understand the system and grow steadily.

“Most people want to start big and end up running at a loss. I chose to start small, learn the system, and grow gradually,” she explained.

She believes many people in the diaspora fail in business back home because of impatience and poor work attitudes, adding that running a business—whether in Ghana or abroad—requires discipline and close supervision.

Maame Yaa also spoke about challenges with workers, noting that some do not understand that taking goods without permission is theft, and later go on to sell those same products elsewhere. She stressed the importance of monitoring and educating workers.

Sharing a life lesson, she recounted a conversation with a taxi driver who admired a large building. She explained that success does not always come instantly.

“The owner started small. His father gave him a baby cow. He nurtured it, sold it, reinvested the money, and today he owns houses and has made huge money,” she said.

According to Maame Yaa, many people focus too much on public perception instead of long-term growth and consistency.

Today, she says she is happy and fulfilled in Ghana. She has time to care for her children, manage her business, and plan for the future.

“My children’s future is in Ghana,” she stated confidently.

Maame Yaa encouraged Ghanaians abroad who want to return and invest to start small, understand the basics, be patient, and grow with time.
