Emmanuel is a Ghanaian based in Berlin, Germany, and he appeared on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show. According to him, many people are making costly mistakes by spending huge amounts of money to travel abroad without getting the results they expect. He wanted to clear the misconceptions surrounding life abroad.

He left Ghana in October 2018 and has spent about seven years abroad. Before traveling, he worked as a professional surveyor after completing KNUST, although business was unstable. Two of his friends had traveled to Germany, which motivated him to research opportunities there.

Emmanuel explained that schools in Germany are tuition-free, but students must handle their own accommodation and feeding. After researching thoroughly, he discovered the requirements and prepared accordingly. He was living in Takoradi at the time and learned basic German—including numbers and the alphabet—before applying. He eventually received admission.

In Berlin, there were many student jobs available. Emmanuel worked and paid his own school fees. He emphasized that many people fail abroad because they don’t research enough. He advised that anyone planning to travel must learn a skill that is in high demand to avoid wasting time. He studied project management, which equipped him with the skills to work in various fields.

He added that many companies in Germany are willing to train workers to become experts, but newcomers must be ready to learn. Emmanuel said the people who guided him used outdated information, so he missed many opportunities. He believes that if he had more student friends at the time, he would have secured internships easily.

He stressed that if someone is struggling in Ghana with no job or opportunities, they can consider traveling, because Germany has many openings. However, people who travel without proper planning, skills, or language skills end up suffering. He warned against using visitor’s visas for survival abroad, because it leads to hardship. He also advised people to read and apply for visas themselves instead of using agents who take advantage of them.

Emmanuel encouraged Ghanaians to build a modest home and live comfortably rather than chasing a “borga lifestyle” or constructing huge mansions in Ghana that they only use for a few weeks. According to him, proper planning, research, and learning a skill are the keys to making abroad worthwhile.
