UK-Based Ghanaian Doctor Advises Students and Job Seekers to Choose High-Demand Courses

Dr. Adom, a Ghanaian doctor based in London, appeared on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami, where he shared insights on education, career planning, and job opportunities in the United Kingdom. He lives near Gatwick Airport and has spent the past 15 years building a successful career in academia, research, and university partnerships.

According to Dr. Adom, anyone planning to travel to the UK must carefully research courses and career paths that are in high demand. He stressed that many people arrive as students but struggle because they choose programs with little value on the UK job market.

“There are huge shortages in areas like nursing, skilled trades, IT, and other specialist fields,” he explained. “If you want to travel, it’s a good decision—but you must add value to yourself first. Learn a skill and master it so you can integrate easily into the system when you arrive.”

Dr. Adom noted that he works with university partnerships and frequently oversees student recruitment. Through this experience, he has seen many Ghanaian students come to the UK and pursue courses that do not lead to good jobs. Some have IT backgrounds back home but enroll in unrelated programs, making it difficult to transition into well-paying roles.

He emphasized that in the UK job market, specialization is key:

“If you don’t have a specialty, you become a generalist. But specialist fields like public health, business analytics, cybersecurity, and many IT-related roles are in very high demand. Cybersecurity especially is a hot cake here.”

Mrs. Francisca Boateng, CEO of Slamm Technologies, also joined the interview. She shared that she met her husband in London and felt privileged to speak alongside Dr. Adom, who also serves as a pastor.

Mrs. Boateng revealed that her institution has trained many people worldwide in IT courses. She confirmed that cybersecurity continues to offer countless job opportunities for those willing to acquire the right skills

Slamm Technologies will be in London to offer an intensive 80-hour IT training program. The course spans two weeks and is not a “free” program, but she believes it provides huge value for anyone looking to transition into a better career.

Dr. Adom encouraged job seekers—especially those currently unemployed or hoping to change careers—to take advantage of the upcoming training. The program will take place on December 15th in London, with free lunch provided at Trinity Baptist Church.

He urged participants to be proactive:

“Learn something new. Improve your skills. If you want to move into IT, start now. The opportunities are available for those who prepare.”
