Amidal, a Ghanaian currently based in Seattle, United States, shared her inspiring story on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show with DJ Nyaami. Having lived in the U.S. for just over a month, she opened up about her path from heartbreak in Ghana to finding love online and building a new life abroad.

Born to a Fante mother and a Northerner father, Amidal grew up in Takoradi and later studied Sociology and Adult Education at the University of Ghana. After completing her national service with the Ghana Cocoa Board, she worked with a pension firm and later joined Fidelity Bank. It was during the COVID-19 period in 2020 that her life took a dramatic turn.

“I was dating someone in Ghana, and we were building a house together,” she recalled.

“But things fell apart when I found out he was womanizing. He kicked me out, and I lost both the house and my investment from the Menzgold scheme.”

Despite the heartbreak, Amidal didn’t give up on love. Through a dating app, she met her now-husband, a God-fearing Black American man who, she says, changed her life completely.

“Before he even met me, he sent me money to rent a place. When he finally came to Ghana, he visited me often but never made any advances. I thought he had a problem until he explained that he wanted to marry before sleeping with me,” she revealed

Their relationship blossomed, and after two visits to Ghana, they had both a traditional and court marriage.

“He later surprised me with a Toyota Corolla after I gave my first car, a Vitz, to my pastor. It even caused problems later when I wanted the car back,” she added with a laugh.

Her husband filed for her to join him in the U.S., but the process was far from easy.

“My visa was denied three times before I finally got approved. It took three years,” she said. “When I arrived, he welcomed me with flowers at the airport and even found me a job at a bakery before I got there.”

However, life in America has not been all rosy. “There are so many homeless people here, and sometimes it feels lonely and depressing even though my husband is around,” Amidal admitted.

Now settled in Seattle, she’s focusing on learning multiple vocational skills and adjusting to her new environment. Together with her husband, they’ve built a two-bedroom house at Katamanso in Ghana and plan to visit regularly.

“I never planned to travel abroad if not for my husband,” she concluded. “Love, patience, and faith can truly change your story.
