17 Years of Silence: Evelyn Danso Shares Emotional Story of Searching for Her Child’s Father After He Disappeared to the UK
Ghanaian woman Evelyn Danso, who appeared on Matter Dey with DJ Nyaami, has opened up about her heartbreaking story of raising a child alone after the father of her baby vanished 17 years ago. Evelyn, who lives in Dansoman, revealed that she once had a serious relationship with a man named Kofi Asiamiah, but after she gave birth, he mysteriously left the country and has not been heard from since.
According to Evelyn, she met Kofi shortly after he completed tertiary education. The two fell in love, made plans to marry, and after two years of dating, she became pregnant. Just before she gave birth, Kofi told her that he intended to travel abroad and would later return to marry her and take care of their child. However, things did not go as planned.
After their baby was born, Kofi’s parents visited Evelyn to apologize and revealed that their son had already traveled to the United Kingdom. For the first two years after his departure, Evelyn occasionally heard from him and even informed him when she got a Montessori admission form for their child. But after that, communication stopped completely, and she has never heard from him again.
Evelyn said Kofi used to live at Adenta Nana Kurom, but she later lost her way when trying to trace his family home. In 2020, when her father passed away, his final wish was for her to find Kofi and reconnect him with their child. She and her family hired a lawyer and attempted to contact Kofi’s mother. The woman answered their call, mentioned Evelyn’s name, and said she had her number. However, any time Evelyn asked about Kofi’s whereabouts, the woman gave excuses. Eventually, she blocked Evelyn’s number and stopped answering calls altogether.
Evelyn described the experience as painful and disrespectful, saying that despite all efforts, no one has helped her find Kofi or even confirm whether he is still alive. Her daughter, now 17 years old, has grown up without ever seeing her father. Evelyn said she has kept the child’s surname the same and has always told her that her father once bought her gifts, showing her pictures of him to keep his memory alive.
She added that in 2013, Kofi called her using a new number and told her to move on with her life if she ever found another man. That was the last time she heard from him. Evelyn recalled that Kofi treated her well during their relationship and took care of her before his sudden disappearance.
Today, she continues to hope for answers — whether Kofi Asiamiah is alive and if he knows he has a child waiting to meet him. Evelyn ended her story with an emotional appeal, saying her daughter is now old enough to understand and sometimes feels the absence of her father deeply.
Her appearance on Matter Dey has drawn emotional reactions from viewers, many of whom sympathized with her and encouraged anyone who may know Kofi Asiamiah or his family to come forward with information.
