Ghanaian in the Netherlands Advocates for Better Waste Management in Ghana

Wadee, a Ghanaian based in the Netherlands, has returned as a guest on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide Show with DJ Nyaami, where he emphasized the importance of recycling and effective waste management.

According to Wadee, waste is considered a valuable resource abroad, as materials such as plastics, bottles, and metals are carefully sorted, recycled, and reused to generate income.

“In Europe, waste is money,” he explained. “Everything — from bottles to metals — is collected, recycled, and turned into something useful. Ghana can do the same if we manage our waste properly.”

He urged Ghana’s local assemblies to prioritize waste management rather than treating it as an afterthought. “If assemblies place dustbins at various points and manage waste collection effectively, they can generate revenue while keeping the environment clean,” he said.

Wadee suggested that assembly members should organize regular street-cleaning exercises and provide at least three separate bins for sorting waste — one for plastics, one for metals, and one for general waste. He added that partnerships with organizations and private companies could help improve the system.

He also highlighted the need for proper drainage systems to prevent flooding. “We need to construct big tunnels to channel rainwater into the sea. Without that, flooding will continue to destroy our cities,” he warned.

Wadee concluded by stressing the importance of maintaining peace and calm in society. “Too much noise distracts the mind,” he said. “When the brain doesn’t get rest, it becomes difficult to solve real problems.”
