Richmond’s Journey from Ghana to Wales Through Scholarships
Richmond is a Ghanaian who began his academic journey at the University of Education, Winneba, where he pursued his master’s degree. After completing his studies in Ghana, he aspired to further his education abroad.
In April 2022, Richmond received an opportunity to study for a master’s degree in the UK. Although he couldn’t complete that program, he later secured another scholarship to pursue a PhD in Wales, where he has now lived for the past three years.
According to Richmond, networking played a major role in his success. Through a professional group he belonged to, he gained valuable connections that helped him secure the scholarship, visa, and travel arrangements.
He is currently a researcher in the medical field.
Richmond advises anyone planning to study abroad to ensure they have the right documents and to be well-prepared financially.
He cautions: “Without proper preparation, you could end up in huge debt and be forced to return home disappointed.”
He also encourages students to consider pursuing research-based master’s programs in Ghana first and then apply for PhD opportunities abroad, as there are many available worldwide.
