Clinton Osei: From Struggles in the UK to Finding His Breakthrough
Clinton Osei, a Ghanaian based in Reading, United Kingdom, appeared on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami to share his journey abroad.
According to Clinton, he has been living in the UK for three years, and though life started with challenges, things are now going well.
Back in Ghana, Clinton was dealing in car tyres in Kumasi. His father, who was already in the UK, was also in the tyre business. Clinton first worked there in Ghana before his sister moved to the UK, and later, he joined her.
Life abroad, however, came with its share of family conflicts. When his father traveled to Ghana for a one-month vacation, Clinton stayed with his sister. Unknown to him, there were tensions between his sister and stepmother, but no one told him the full story. When his aunt later joined them in the UK, the conflicts grew. Clinton decided to leave the family house and rent his own space. According to him, once he got his own apartment, he felt spiritually free and truly began experiencing life abroad.
Clinton later met a Ghanaian lady and then a Barbadian woman, who often visited him in Reading from London. Unfortunately, things went sour. The woman damaged his property, and when police were called, she falsely accused him of abuse. Clinton was arrested and spent a night behind bars, but the case was later dropped after it was proven false. Despite being cleared, he was eventually evicted from his apartment and lost his job at a hotel, leaving him unemployed for almost a year.
During this difficult time, Clinton moved in with a close friend who had also traveled through him. The friend supported him without asking for rent, while Clinton contributed by buying groceries whenever he worked.
His breakthrough came when he got a job at a mall as a daytime cleaner. One day, he met the head chef in a lift, and after a brief conversation about his past experience, he was transferred from cleaning to the engineering department. That change transformed his life — his salary increased four times, and he learned new skills, including bricklaying. His managers encouraged him, telling him he had a natural talent and should showcase it.
Clinton is now grateful for the turnaround. He says his friend played a big role in getting him his current job, and his father also stood by him when he faced eviction and arrests.
He admits that during those dark days, he used to cry alone in his room, but now he is focused on his work, furthering his education, and avoiding distractions from women. He believes his story is a testimony that with perseverance and God’s grace, things can turn around for the better.
