Andy UK Shares His Journey From Broken Heart to Survival Abroad

Andy, a Ghanaian living in the UK, shared his life story and experiences on SVTV Africa’s Matter Dey show with DJ Nyaami.

According to Andy, before traveling abroad, he worked as a trotro driver in Ghana to support his then-girlfriend, helping her learn a trade and build a better future. However, despite his sacrifices, she left him. “She was beautiful with a nice shape, and people often asked her, ‘Why would a girl like you be with a trotro driver?’ After I traveled, she started begging me to return, but by then, I had moved on,” he revealed.

Andy emphasized that he doesn’t smoke or drink; his only passion is intimacy, which makes him happy. He admitted that overcoming heartbreak was tough, but life abroad changed his perspective.

“When I first arrived in the UK, I used to sweep the streets and empty bins. I earned about £400 a week, but many people were ashamed to do such jobs. Out here, there’s no slay queen lifestyle—everyone works, and no man takes care of women like in Ghana,” Andy explained.

He added that his parents advised him against womanizing and encouraged him to eat well and live healthily. “Some men here waste all their money on women. They even buy bus passes for them, and at the end of the month, they’re broke,” he said.

Andy also shared his early struggles working in a warehouse cold store. “It was tough—eight hours nonstop in freezing conditions. Many people can’t handle that kind of work, which is why they struggle abroad.”

Reflecting on Ghana, he admitted: “If I was earning 3,000 cedis back home, I wouldn’t have come abroad. But at the time, I was making only 700 cedis a month. In Ghana, even if you’re a boss, you’ll still be treated like someone’s small boy. Abroad, at least hard work pays off.”

He gave blunt advice to Ghanaians: “If you’re hot-tempered, don’t come abroad—you won’t survive. If you’re over 50, don’t come unless you already have a solid job waiting. And if you’re a womanizer, don’t come to the UK—go to America instead. Women here are scarce, and if you want one, you’ll have to go to church, funerals, or parties.”

Andy concluded by saying he has no plans of getting a girlfriend in the UK for now, stressing that he is focused on building his life and making the most out of the opportunities he has.
