Kojo Boateng, Ghanaian Data Analytics Specialist in the USA, Shares His Journey on SVTV Africa

Kojo Boateng, a Ghanaian data analytics specialist based in the United States, recently appeared on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show with DJ Nyaami, where he spoke about his journey, career shift, and life abroad.

According to Kojo, many Ghanaians living abroad would love to return home, but the reality is that times are tough—not because they are lazy, but because of financial pressures and limited opportunities.

He narrated how he migrated to the U.S. in 2012 with his elder brother, after being sponsored by their mother who was already living there. “When I first came, I wanted to study civil engineering so I could return to Ghana and help with road construction. But after applying to school, I realized things back home were not encouraging,” he explained.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kojo decided to change paths. “If you’re willing to learn, you can always change your career. I studied data analytics from home, and eventually transitioned into the field. The flexibility of working from home and the global demand for data skills made it the right choice,” he said.

He stressed that data remains a booming field, especially with the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI). “Everything today is data-driven. If you position yourself well, you can work from anywhere in the world,” he noted.

Sharing his earnings progression, Kojo revealed that his first job paid him $80,000 annually. “At junior to mid-level, you can earn around $110,000 to $120,000, while senior-level specialists can make close to $150,000. At higher levels, salaries can range from $200,000 to even $800,000 depending on the company and role,” he added.

Today, Kojo not only works in the data field but also teaches others online, helping them break into the industry. He encouraged Ghanaians to take opportunities seriously, learn new skills, and not be discouraged by initial challenges.
