Dizzy is a Ghanaian living in Köpenick, Berlin, Germany. He shared his story on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show with DJ Nyaami. He has lived in Germany for over a year and has been learning to speak the language since arriving.

Growing up in Ghana, Dizzy started his education in Asante Mampong, then moved to Kumasi. His mother lived in Accra, so he eventually joined her there. She later left for Germany, and Dizzy continued his education at Golden Child School in Dome Pillar 2, Ghana Education Service, then Suhum Senior High Technical School. He later moved back to Kumasi, completed high school, and gained admission to KNUST. Initially, he was into rap but later switched to management studies. However, after a relationship breakup, he dropped out and focused on music.

His music journey began in church, where he led worship. His mother questioned his shift from gospel to secular music, especially after hearing from him that some sound engineers were encouraging him to use charms for fame. The spiritual side of the industry began to frighten him. Despite this, he collaborated with known artists like Bisa Kdei and Lil Shaker. The pressure to spiritually “fortify” himself from people in the industry made him rethink things.

Dizzy also studied interior decoration and briefly trained to become an air conditioning technician, but the person who was supposed to teach him died. His mother, who was in Germany, supported him financially, and he eventually decided to pursue a Master’s degree in Germany. He is the only child of his mother.

Growing up without a father, Dizzy was raised by his grandmother and uncle. While dating a lady in the UK, she pushed him to find his father. He spoke to his uncle, who helped him locate his father in Kumasi. When they met, his father was surprised to see that Dizzy was doing well and wasn’t from a poor background as he had assumed. They reconciled and have maintained a good relationship since. At one point, his father went missing after driving to Ho for a week, which worried the family, but he was eventually found.

Dizzy said his mother was determined to travel and made sure to live a responsible life after giving birth to him. He lived with other family members before joining her in Accra. She later got married and moved to Germany. In SHS 2, she expressed a desire to bring him to Germany, but he wasn’t interested at the time.

Dizzy met his manager at Refinish Records, worked with Bisa Kdei again, and dated a UK-based lady who visited him twice in Ghana. She wanted him to move to the UK, but the relationship didn’t work out. Eventually, he decided to go to Germany for his Master’s and is currently still studying.

He shared that life abroad isn’t as hard as people say, but those without family, connections, or proper documents really struggle. He believes only around 20% of Black people abroad are doing well and can inspire others. Many are uneducated and don’t speak proper English, so he advises learning the local language. Dizzy had studied Dutch back in Ghana at Madam Rose’s school in Adenta and had a basic understanding of languages before traveling.

He is now pursuing a Master’s in Interior Decoration. Before leaving Ghana, he also trained to drive forklifts and big machines, got the necessary licenses, and passed all the tests.

Dizzy also highlighted the reality of racism in Germany. He shared a disturbing experience where he was almost attacked by some Germans for wearing Ghanaian attire. He added that even some Black girls abroad exhibit racist attitudes. Despite the challenges, he believes with education, purpose, and proper documentation, success is possible abroad.
